About
Musashino Shuzo is a sake brewery that continues to brew in the Takada area of Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture. Its sake is made with subterranean water (fukuryusui) flowing down from the Myoko mountain range and with rice grown in the region, including rice from contract farmers, and is brewed in the traditional way by Echigo toji (master brewers). In 1927 (Showa 2), the brand name was changed to "Ski Masamune" (Sukimasamune), which is still brewed today as the brewery's flagship brand. The brewery also makes plum wine using Koshi no Ume plums grown in the local Nadachi area, and aims to craft sake that one never tires of drinking. Brewery tours are accepted by reservation.
