About
Tenryo Homare Shuzo is a sake brewery in Iwafune, Nakano City, Nagano Prefecture, which began brewing in 1880 (Meiji 13). Its predecessor was a sake brewing house called Nakamuraya, and after the war seven breweries merged to form the present company. The brewery stands in Iwafune, at the tip of an alluvial fan with the Shiga Kogen highlands behind it, where water wells up in abundance. It makes local sake under the motto "both rice and water from Shinshu." The name of its flagship brand, Tenryohomare, comes from the Edo period, when Nakano was a tenryo (land directly governed by the shogunate) with a magistrate's office (daikansho) located there. The brewery also produces a rose sake made with rose petals, called "Pretty Angel."
