Scoring method (saitenho)
採点法さいてんほうThe scoring method (saitenho) is a way of evaluating the quality and characteristics of sake. Through tasting, the evaluator considers elements such as aroma, flavor, mouthfeel, and aftertaste, and rates the sake on a scale such as 1 to 5 points, or -3 to +3 points. This approach makes it easier to compare and analyze the characteristics of different sake. Scoring is often carried out by experts, but because general drinkers can also try it for enjoyment, it is also used as a way to deepen one's understanding of sake.
