Sake of Aomori

Aomori is a land rich in nature, symbolized by the Shirakami Mountains (Shirakami Sanchi), a World Heritage Site. The prefecture was quick to take up the development of sake rice suited to cold regions, and varieties such as Hohai, Hanafubuki, and Hanaomoi have spread to other prefectures as well. In addition, the creation of the prefecture's own Mahoroba Hana yeast brought fresh energy to ginjo sake brewing.

Food and pairing

Aomori Prefecture is surrounded by sea on three sides and blessed with abundant nature, including mountains and forests. The climate and culture differ among the Tsugaru, Nanbu, and Shimokita regions, and each has developed its own food culture. Visitors can enjoy tastes unique to Aomori, from seafood such as bluefin tuna from Oma and squid to local specialties like ichigo-ni (a clear soup) and senbei-jiru (a soup made with senbei crackers).
