About

About Taisetsu Taisetsu went on sale about a quarter century ago. It is brewed slowly and carefully from highly polished Hokkaido-grown rice. Today it is sold not only in Japan but also as an export brand overseas, with distribution expanding mainly in North America and Asia. ~ The Story Behind the Name ~ Taisetsu is one of the 24 solar terms (nijushi sekki, a traditional way of dividing the calendar year). It is the third term of winter (the 21st overall) and refers to the time when snow begins to fall heavily, which corresponds to early December in the calendar. This is also the peak of the sake brewing season. Because the sake is brewed with subterranean water flowing down from the Daisetsuzan mountain range (大雪山連峰) that surrounds the city of Asahikawa, it was named "Taisetsu."
