When spirits rise, we pour a cup; when they fade, sake restores them. Through life's joys and sorrows, sake is there, and this is what we call the virtue of sake.

About

Hagiwara Shuzo is located in Sakai Town, Sashima District, Ibaraki Prefecture. Sakai faces Sekiyado Town (now part of Noda City) in Chiba Prefecture across the Tone River. Taking advantage of the abundant water resources of the Tone River basin, the town has prospered as a key transportation hub since the Muromachi period. Our brewery began making sake in 1855 (Ansei 2) under the first Toemon, and the present generation is the sixth. We have heard that our sake, Toku Masamune (とくまさむね), was named after the saying: "When spirits rise, we pour a cup; when they fade, sake restores them. Through life's joys and sorrows, sake is there, and this is what we call the virtue of sake."
