About
Ozawa Shuzojo is a sake brewery founded in 1926 (Taisho 15), located in Yagi-cho, Hachioji, Tokyo. Its main brand, Kuwanomiyako, takes its name from "Kuwa no Miyako" (桑都), another name for Hachioji. The brewery also produces Hachiojijo, a Junmai sake made with rice grown in Hachioji. The brewery once brewed with its own groundwater, but urbanization degraded the water quality. It now commissions brewing to other breweries that can use the same soft water from the Chichibu geological system, and part of its premises serves as an office and shop. About 30 years ago, it won gold awards at the Annual Japan Sake Awards four years in a row.
