Kokuryukei (rice grain counting tool)
穀粒計こくりゅうけいA kokuryukei (穀粒計) is a tool for accurately counting grains of rice. It has grooves sized to fit individual grains of brown rice, arranged in rows and columns to give a total of 100 slots. To use it, rice is placed on the tool and the excess grains are removed, which makes it possible to measure exactly 100 grains. The tool is useful for quality control and measurement of the rice used as a raw material in sake brewing. It is also known as a "kokuryu keisanki" (穀粒計算器, grain counting device), and it contributes to standardizing how rice grains are counted.
