About
Kitashuzo's flagship brand, which carries the flavor of its founding into the present day. Its character is a well-balanced harmony of sweet and dry, with umami that comes alive when warmed (kan). Kitashuzo was founded in 1718 (Kyoho 3) in Kashihara, Nara, a place surrounded by the Three Mountains of Yamato (Yamato Sanzan). The first generation, Kita Rihei (きたりへい), was said to be a man of exacting standards who selected only the finest water and rice, and who, according to tradition, did not open as a sake shop until he was satisfied with the results. Honoring the wishes of its founder, we have continued for more than 300 years to pursue delicious sake. To us, delicious sake is sake in which the intentions of the brewer reach the heart of the person drinking it. Kitashuzo holds dear the spirit of its founding, and takes pride in Miyokiku being loved as a fine sake of Yamato that conveys history and joy.
