Solvent
溶媒ようばいA solvent is the liquid that dissolves a substance (the solute) so that it becomes evenly dispersed within the liquid. Solvents are essential for forming a solution, and how a solute dissolves in a solvent can greatly change the characteristics and properties of the resulting solution. In sake brewing, water is the main solvent. It dissolves the components derived from rice and yeast, and in doing so helps bring out the alcohol, aroma, and flavor.
