Low-alcohol sake
低アルコール清酒ていあるこーるせいしゅLow-alcohol sake (teiarukoru seishu) refers to sake with a lower alcohol content than typical Japanese sake. While standard sake generally has an alcohol content of 15 to 16 percent, many low-alcohol sakes fall in the range of 12 to 14 percent, or roughly 6 to 10 percent. These products have been developed in recent years in response to consumers' preference for lighter drinking, and they are especially popular as health consciousness grows and as an option for casual enjoyment. Low-alcohol sake also comes in a variety of styles, including sparkling versions, highly acidic versions, and cloudy sake (nigori). Despite the lower alcohol content, the richness of flavor and aroma remains, making these sakes easy to drink while offering considerable variety.
