Shimonada Mego (historic sake-brewing district)

下灘目郷しもなだもくごう
Shimonada Mego (下灘目郷) was a sake-producing district that no longer exists as such. It was known in particular during the Meiwa era (1764–1772) as part of the Nadame Sango. The district lay on the western side of what is now Nada Gogo (the Five Districts of Nada) and played an important role in the region's sake brewing. Over time, however, brewing in the area changed, and the names of the individual districts have since been lost. The Nadame Sango, including Shimonada Mego, is recorded as part of Japan's historical sake culture, and the area influenced the brewing techniques and flavors of its time.
