Nada Gogo (the Five Districts of Nada)
灘五郷なだごごうNada Gogo (the Five Districts of Nada) is one of Japan's most renowned sake-producing regions, covering the area from Nada Ward in Kobe to the city of Nishinomiya in Hyogo Prefecture. The region has clear streams, high-quality rice and a favorable climate, which together create an environment well suited to sake brewing. During the Meiwa era (1764–1772) of the Edo period, three districts, Kami Nadame-go, Shimo Nadame-go and Imazu-go, were known collectively as Nadame Sango. Today, five districts are grouped together as Nada Gogo: Nishigo, Mikage-go, Uozaki-go, Nishinomiya-go and Imazu-go. Sake from Nada Gogo is characterized by a tanrei (light and crisp) style that can be enjoyed well chilled, and it is highly regarded in Japan and abroad.
