About

The pinnacle of Tensei, Uka Tensei. Made with Yamada Nishiki from the Special A district of Hyogo Prefecture, the highest grade of sake rice in Japan, this refined sake offers a deep, polished flavor and aroma that truly represent the pinnacle of Tensei. The Yamada Nishiki is polished to a rice polishing ratio of 40% and slowly nurtured at low temperatures. You may be wondering where the name Tensei comes from. The name is taken from the phrase "Uka Tensei Unpa Sho" (the blue of the sky after rain, and more specifically, the blue of the moment when the clouds break and the sky begins to clear), which was used by an emperor of the Later Zhou, one of the Five Dynasties of China, to describe the ideal color of celadon. We strive to brew sake that captures the clean, far-reaching coolness and moist richness of that legendary "Uka Tensei" celadon. It is ideal as a gift to mark a new beginning, or for Iwai (celebratory) occasions and other special days, known as hare no hi. The pinnacle of Tensei, Uka Tensei, also makes a thoughtful gift for someone dear to you. Lovingly made with sincere care, this is a bottle brewed with the full dedication of our kurabito (brewery workers).
