About

Koganei Shuzo is a brewery founded in 1818 (Bunsei 1) in Nanasawa, at the foot of the eastern Tanzawa Mountains in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture. Drawing on water from the Tanzawa Mountains and on koji-making and fermentation techniques handed down over generations, it brews a wide range of drinks, centered on its sake Sakarimasu. It also makes honkaku shochu (authentic shochu), Sagami Beer, craft gin, hon-mirin (true mirin), and honey wine. Its Daiginjo Sakarimasu placed in the Annual Japan Sake Awards for 12 consecutive years, from 2015 (Heisei 27) to 2026 (Reiwa 8), and won first place with a GOLD award in the Junmai Daiginjo category at SAKE COMPETITION 2025. The brewery has a shop on site, which visitors can stop by on the way to Nanasawa Onsen or while hiking.
