About
Huchu Homare is a sake brewery in Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture, founded in 1854 (Ansei 1). The brewery stands in an area blessed with the spring water of the Tsukuba mountain range known as the "Fuchu Rokusei (府中六井)" and brews the brands Wataribune, Taiheikai and Fuchu Homare. In 1989 (Heisei 1), from just 14 grams of seed rice that had been preserved at a research institute in Tsukuba, the long-lost sake rice Watashibune was revived and cultivated locally. The ginjo sake brewed with this rice is Wataribune (read "watari-bune"). The Wataribune Daiginjo won a gold prize at the Annual Japan Sake Awards in 1996 (Heisei 8). Seven buildings of the brewery, including the main residence and the brewing house, are registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan.”},
