About
Iwamura Brewery Co., Ltd. (Iwamura Jozo) is a sake brewery founded in 1787 (Tenmei 7), located in Iwamura-cho, Ena City, Gifu Prefecture. It stands at the foot of Iwamura Castle, one of Japan's three great mountain castles, and visitors can tour the brewery by following a small trolley track that runs from the storefront to the brewery buildings. Its flagship brand, Onnajoshu, was launched in 1985 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the construction of Iwamura Castle. Visitors can taste around four kinds of sake, as well as non-alcoholic amazake (a sweet rice drink), free of charge. The brewery also holds a kurabiraki (brewery open house) on the road in front of the shop every year from February to March.
