About

Omachi is considered the oldest sake rice variety, and its history is said to have begun in 1859 in Okayama Prefecture. Because of its excellent traits, it has been used as a parent in crossbreeding to develop new varieties in various regions, and its lineage runs through many sake rice varieties, including Yamada Nishiki and Dewa Sansan. Cultivating the rice and brewing the sake are both extremely difficult, but the resulting sake is full of a distinctive, gentle character.
