About
Masukagami is a sake brewery on the banks of the Kamo River in Kamo City, Niigata Prefecture. It was founded in 1892 (Meiji 25), and the current president is the fifth generation. The brand name Masukagami (萬寿鏡) is said to have been given by the head of the local tax office at the time of the brewery's founding. The brewery makes standard sakes that are light and crisp (tanrei) yet full of umami. It also takes a playful, individual approach to its products, such as Kamenozoki (甕覗), which is sake ladled directly from a ceramic jar, and an alphabet-named line that includes J40. Even its futsushu (regular sake) is characterized by a high rice polishing ratio.
